Restaurant Review: Yak & Yeti

Entrance Sign Yak and Yeti

Disney World is finally open! Luckily for me, crowds are at reduced capacity, which means I got into Yak & Yeti. Be still my beating heart!

I have been dying to go to the actual sit down portion of Yak & Yeti for a hot minute. So I snagged myself a table for one last weekend and got to dine on some yummy far east food.

Back Story of Yak & Yeti

You can find the restaurant located in Asia in Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Depending on which way you walk, it’s near Everest!

The story behind Yak & Yeti is interesting. If you know Disney, you know they love a good back story!

Taken from the their website directly:

Your path to discovering Yak & Yeti begins at the foothills of the Himalayan Mountains, a major crossroads of cultures. The majestic sight of Mount Everest is just above the horizon.

Traders, pilgrims, and armies have passed through this small rural, kampong, or village, on a well-traveled road to India snaking through China and Southwest Asia. Here in the town of Anandapur lives a rich merchant, Arjun, who has fallen on hard times and has turned his large home into the Yak & Yeti Hotel.

The hotel is the kind of boutique hotel that wealthier adventure travelers might seek out in India. While travelers rest at the hotel, the owner and other families reside there. The decor, as well as the furniture, of Yak and Yeti, is an amalgamation of mismatched artifacts Arjun has collected through his years of travel in Southeast Asia. In the center of the hotel is the full-service Yak & Yeti Restaurant, which features local Pan-Asian cuisine...”

The Decor & More

Walking around, you could get lost inside the decor. Asian inspired motifs, statues, and paintings can be found on both levels of the restaurant.

My favorite is all the different Asian statues, some looking similar to Buddhist statues.

Surprisingly, the restaurant does have two stories and a little balcony. I got to dine on the terrace but did not have the view of the streets below.

Waitress Of My Dreams

Have you ever had someone serve you that went above and beyond and made your day? Well, the cast member that helped me was just that. She was funny, helpful, and knowledgeable.

I asked questions about her favorite dishes, one being the pot stickers, which are amazing.

My family members are vegan and vegetarian, and I, of course, had to get the low down on Yak & Yeti’s options. Those are mentioned below.

Starters Are Larger Than They Appear

There are many different options for starters that it is challenging to decide which one I wanted to try. The waitress for the save, she helped with informing me that the potstickers were the best. Next time I am going to try the egg rolls.

Meals For Two Or More

According to the expert, my waitress, most of the meals are large and can easily be taken home as leftovers.

Since I was eating alone and wasn’t wholly starving, I opted to skip some of the yummier sounding dishes and go for the sides.

Meal Time Is Happy Time

Once I received my food, my belly did a happy dance. I started with the pot-stickers and the chicken fried rice.

The speed of the meal was super quick. I couldn’t believe I didn’t have to wait for 20 – 30 minutes.

Pot-Stickers

Pork Pot Stickers with Ponzu sauce

The pot-stickers came out first. I wasn’t starving; therefore, I waited to order the other portion of my meal.

They were crispy on one side and soft on the other. Packed with flavors that excited my taste-buds, I was surprised that this is better than the standard “Disney Food.”

Included with the pot-stickers is a dipping sauce that is more flavorful than soy sauce. It kind of tastes like a ponzu sauce, but either way, I wanted to drink it.

Chicken Fried Rice

Fried Rice at Yak and Yei

This is a staple in my book and you can’t really do it wrong. Or can you?

There are two different sides of rice on the menu. One is a more significant portion that should be shared with the family, and the other is what I received.

However, I was a bit disappointed. The rice mixture included peas and carrots; it was not dry but rather moist. The chicken, on the other hand, was dry and not as flavorful as I was expecting.

I think a sauce might have made that more tasty to me. Either way, it was a great leftover.

Vegan At Yak And Yeti

There are a few options for my vegan friend out there. They do have a Veggie Lo Mein; however, that is not vegan as-is.

You will need to ask them to change the noodles to rice noodles and swap the sauce for the vegan sauce. After then you then have 3 options, a Beyond Meat Burger, Vegetable Lo Mein, and a Vegetable Bowl.

I plan to bring my vegan sister and bro-in-law to try the options to see how they really measure up!

Final Thoughts

I can’t wait to go back to Yak and Yeti at the end of August. This time I am going with my mother so that I will be able to partake in more of the entrees! I can’t wait to try it all.

I highly recommend visiting Yak and Yeti as they do have great options and portion sizes.

More to come after the next visit!
