Restaurant Review: Kona Cafe

Inside look at Kona Cafe

If you are looking for little get away from all the Disney World hustle and bustle, look no further than Disney’s Kona Cafe. It is located on the second floor of the Polynesian Resort, nestled away from the O’hana Restaurant.

There you will find wonderful treats ranging from eggs and bacon to Tonga Toast. Although I did not try the Tonga toast, it gives me a reason to return!

When you walk into Disney’ Polynesian Resort you will be blown away with the beauty of the landscape and attention to detail.

There is a beautiful waterfall and babbling brook before you even enter the Polynesian Resort lobby area.

Once you enter, pause and look at the rocks at your feet. There are hidden Mickey’s everywhere in the Disney parks and this is one I have missed for years. Luckily, I was playing on my phone and found it!

When you walk upstairs there is this little restaurant that lacks anything memorable from the decor. I honestly did not know I needed to make advance reservations, but a friend let me know I needed those reservations.

It was pretty easy to get my reservations in My Disney Experience. In fact, I was able to get them only a few days before visiting for breakfast.

There were so many options to choose from at the Kona Cafe. Their breakfast menu had some specialty food and drink items.

Disney Dining Plans also work at this but call ahead and check with Disney or your Travel Genie to make sure your plan works.

Kona Cafe Loco Moco

Loco Moco- Rice, grilled hamburger patty, eggs and tomatoes

The Loco Moco is a traditional island brunch staple that features a tower of rice, grilled hamburger patty, house-made chorizo Gravy, two eggs-any style, and topped with tomato salsa. This will set you back about $12.

I have never experienced an array of flavors with every bite like I did in this meal. Each bite exploded with flavors and spices, and no two bites were like. I did not want to a piggie and lick my plate, but this entree was totally worth licking all the gravy!

The hamburger patty was not exciting, but adding that to the gravy and rice it was a good filler. The rice was your normal rice, but it was fluffier. The eggs were normal scrambled eggs, they were light and well seasoned.

The gravy. Was. Everything.

The Loco Moco also comes as a plant-based option for those looking for vegan food at Disney World.

Two-Eggs Any Style

Two eggs any style with bacon, homefries and toast

A hearty portion of 2 eggs any style served with home-fried potatoes and your choice of ham, spiced ham, bacon, or sausage. You will also get two slices of toast and a wonderful assortment of jams and jellies. This meal will run you $14.

It was your basic meal, nothing to write home about. For anyone in your party who is not adventurous or who wants a larger portion. The portion was perfect for a grown adult as well as something that could be shared between two kids.

The home-fried potatoes had a blend of onions and peppers, which gave them a good flavoring.

Kona Cafe Beverages

Lilikoi Mimosas

We did try the Liliko’i Mimosa, which was a blend of tropical fruit juices and runs $13 each. It was very tasty, but it was still your standard mimosa.

Over-all Thoughts

A great little break from the heck-it day at Disney World and the theme park madness. It was a little tropical island oasis that provided great food, great prices, and reasonable drinks!
